EGAS is becoming exxis

Ecclesia Group continues to develop Assekuradeur

With exxis, the Ecclesia Group’s reinsurer is repositioning itself. The new brand identity highlights what exxis stands for today: underwriting expertise, structured processes, and customized solutions for complex risks.

Today, companies need solutions that remain viable even under changing conditions. exxis operates where standard approaches are no longer sufficient and where it is crucial to understand, assess, and make decisions regarding risks in a way that creates sustainable coverage and ensures companies remain capable of acting. At the same time, exxis stands for a forward-looking approach to risk management across the entire value chain—from analysis and underwriting to claims processing.

In this interview, Thomas Olaynig, Chief Market Officer, and Tim Brozio, Head of Market & Products at exxis, explain the background of the strategic development, exxis’s role within the Ecclesia network, and the added value the new structure offers the market.

What does exxis stand for?

Thomas Olaynig: The name exxis deliberately draws on the Greek origin of the term “Ecclesia” and expresses what we stand for: reliability, decisiveness, and tailor-made solutions. As a multiline underwriter and multiple general agent with underwriting authority, we combine precise risk assessment, in-house underwriting, claims settlement, and customized product design into an integrated approach. This is not about standard modules, but about concepts tailored to the client’s specific situation.

Tim Brozio: Our goal is to understand risks holistically. We analyze technical systems, operational processes, and liability scenarios as well as specific risk potentials and safety concepts. Based on this, we design coverage that is technically sound and understandable to the client. exxis thus stands for substance and clarity—especially in an environment where risks are constantly changing.

At its core, the exxis brand stands for responsible decision-making.

How does exxis work?

Tim Brozio: We start with a structured analysis of the specific risk situation. Based on this, we develop customized coverage, including special solutions or excess coverage when necessary. Quick decision-making and clear processes ensure that we can support brokers and insurers promptly with sustainable results.

Thomas Olaynig: Even in the event of a claim, we rely on in-depth expertise and close collaboration with insurers. We manage complex risk situations, provide the necessary expertise, and ensure that claims can be processed quickly and systematically. This combination of underwriting and claims expertise is an essential part of our quality commitment.

What sets exxis apart from other market players?

Thomas Olaynig: Our strength lies in the Ecclesia Group’s deep-rooted industry expertise across the board—particularly in healthcare, the church, the social sector, and industry and commerce. We have a very detailed understanding of the structures of these markets and can assess risks with the appropriate level of nuance. In addition, we have proven experience with cyber and digital risks, complex liability and responsibility structures, as well as international operations and travel risks. This clearly sets us apart from providers who operate in a more generic manner.

Tim Brozio: Added to this is our approach to partnerships: brokers manage sales and serve their clients. This division of roles creates efficiency and transparency. Insurers benefit from transparent risk assessments and consistent decisions.

What role does exxis play within the Ecclesia network?

Tim Brozio: exxis is part of a strong network within the Ecclesia Group. The Group’s environment gives us access to the market, expertise, and established structures. This ensures stability and creates the framework within which we can operate. We are particularly active in areas where standard solutions do not apply—such as financial lines, cyber, liability, and individual specialty risks.

Thomas Olaynig: What’s important here is that we act independently in our decision-making, underwrite risks autonomously within defined authorities, and bring together the perspectives of brokers and insurers. This understanding of the role and position of the underwriter is crucial. In doing so, we support the solutions not only at the underwriting stage but throughout their entire lifecycle.

We do not see our role as merely assessing or passing on risks, but rather as thoroughly analyzing them from a technical perspective and making sustainable decisions based on that analysis.

What can brokers and insurers expect?

Tim Brozio: Brokers receive marketable, professionally vetted solutions that provide confidence during client meetings. Our processes are efficient and our decisions transparent—this streamlines workflows and reduces follow-up inquiries.

Thomas Olaynig: Insurers, in turn, receive clearly structured risks and technically sound decision-making criteria. We work reliably and with a high degree of transparency. And in the event of a claim, all parties benefit from our in-depth knowledge of the specific characteristics of our target industries and the relevant technical and organizational risks.

Today, we work differently, faster, and more effectively. exxis demonstrates that we design solutions, make sound decisions, and ensure that risks are managed effectively in the market.
